Fluence, a global provider of energy storage technology and energy software services, and ACE Engineering have announced the opening of a new automated battery energy storage manufacturing facility in Bac Giang Province, Vietnam.

The plant, with an annual manufacturing capacity of 35GWh, will produce Fluence’s Gridstack Pro and Smartstack energy storage systems using a fully automated production process to improve productivity and quality control.

The two companies said the factory will significantly expand Fluence's production capabilities for grid-scale energy storage systems amid growing global demand for battery energy storage solutions.

In terms of scale, the energy storage systems produced by this factory each year are enough to deploy approximately 8.75GWh of 4-hour battery energy storage systems.

Fluence confirmed that the factory will produce its Gridstack Pro and Smartstack product lines, which represent the company's latest generation of grid-scale energy storage solutions.

Gridstack Pro is Fluence's flagship large-scale front-of-the-meter energy storage system, designed for large-scale ground-mounted and independent power producer applications. The system has achieved safety certifications such as UL9540 and UL9540A, and is designed for deployment in areas with limited transmission network capacity.

Smartstack, on the other hand, is targeted at commercial and industrial applications, with a more compact footprint and integrated energy management capabilities.

Fluence President and CEO Julian Nebreda said the new factory will help achieve "higher levels of manufacturing excellence."

“We believe that by combining advanced automation technologies with stringent quality standards, we are in the best position to meet the demanding requirements of our customers and deliver competitively at the speed and scale the market demands,” Nebreda said.

Fluence's fiscal 2025 revenue is expected to reach the lower end of its guidance range.

Fluence recently announced its financial results for the third fiscal quarter ending June 30, 2025. Its quarterly revenue was US$602.5 million, a year-on-year increase of 24.7%, compared to US$483 million in the same period last year.

However, due to delays in ramping up production capacity at its US production base, the company expects to hit the lower end of its previously released revenue guidance range for fiscal year 2025. This energy storage company has fallen out of the top five globally, with undelivered orders exceeding 35.1 billion yuan.

Fluence fell out of the top five in a global battery energy storage system integrator shipment ranking released earlier this month by market researcher Wood Mackenzie, but will be ranked second in 2022 and third in 2023.

Fluence's development projects are primarily located in the Americas, with the majority in the U.S. Company leadership said projects that were put on hold last quarter due to policy uncertainty are beginning to resume progress.

As previously reported by Energy-Storage.news, the US market accounts for approximately half of Fluence's business. In addition to sourcing battery cells from the AES C plant in Tennessee, the company has also built component factories in Utah and Texas , and a battery energy storage system (BESS) casing assembly plant in Arizona.

However, the company also does business with several international regions, including Australasia and Southeast Asia.

Global energy storage companies are turning to Southeast Asia for manufacturing

With Southeast Asia's growing interest in energy storage technology and manufacturing capabilities, Fluence has opened a manufacturing facility in Thailand to tap into this emerging market.

Several other energy storage companies have also set their sights on Southeast Asia to expand their manufacturing capabilities, most notably Chinese battery and energy storage system maker Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL), which launched a $6 billion battery integration project in Indonesia in July 2025.

CATL said the project will cover the "complete battery value chain" across multiple sites, from nickel mining and processing, battery material production, recycling, to a battery manufacturing plant with an initial annual production capacity of 6.9GWh.

In January this year, another Chinese lithium-ion battery manufacturer, REPT Battero, announced plans to build a battery gigafactory in Indonesia that will focus on producing battery cells for battery energy storage systems, with an annual output of 8GWh.
