A new study led by the University of New South Wales in Australia recently showed that a deeper understanding of the type of ultraviolet light used to test solar cells could speed up their long-term performance evaluation and improve their efficiency. The study focused on TOPCon solar cells and made two important findings: first, different parts of the ultraviolet spectrum affect TOPCon cells differently; second, new manufacturing methods designed to increase module power and efficiency may actually increase the risk of UV-induced degradation, which in turn affects the long-term performance of the cells.
Recently, American polysilicon company Highland Materials announced that it has signed a long-term lease agreement with industrial real estate investor Key Manufacturing Partners to build a next-generation polysilicon plant at the site of the former Phipps Bend Nuclear Power Plant in Hawkins County, Tennessee. This investment, exceeding $1 billion (7.182 billion RMB), is seen by the industry as a significant step in strengthening the US domestic solar supply chain.
On August 12, the Gansu Provincial Development and Reform Commission released a policy interpretation of the "Implementation Plan for Deepening Market-Oriented Reform of New Energy On-Grid Electricity Prices in Gansu Province to Promote High-Quality Development of New Energy." The policy clarified three key aspects: First, promote the full entry of all on-grid electricity from all new energy projects, including centralized photovoltaic and wind power, distributed photovoltaic and decentralized wind power, and solar thermal power generation, into the electricity market, with on-grid electricity prices determined through market transactions. Second, establish a price settlement mechanism for the sustainable development of new energy. Third, improve the electricity market system to adapt to the new power system.
On August 13, the Qinghai Provincial Energy Bureau issued a notice soliciting public opinions and suggestions on the "Qinghai Province 2025 Renewable Energy Power Consumption Guarantee Implementation Plan (Draft for Comment)." The document proposes establishing and improving a renewable energy power consumption guarantee mechanism, continuously improving the province's renewable energy power consumption level, and fulfilling the national mandate for Qinghai Province to consume 70% of its total renewable energy power by 2025, 30% of its non-hydropower renewable energy power consumption, 70% of its electrolytic aluminum industry green electricity consumption, 70% of its steel industry green electricity consumption (monitoring only, not assessment), 70% of its cement industry green electricity consumption (monitoring only, not assessment), and 70% of its polysilicon industry green electricity consumption (monitoring only, not assessment).
