On the 7th local time, US President Trump announced that tariffs will be imposed on imported products from 14 countries starting from August 1st:

  • Japan, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Tunisia: 25%
  • Bosnia and Herzegovina, South Africa: 30%
  • Indonesia: 32%
  • Bangladesh, Serbia: 35%
  • Cambodia, Thailand: 36%
  • Laos, Myanmar: 40%

US President Trump said on the 7th that starting from August 1st, tariffs ranging from 25% to 40% will be imposed on imported products from 14 countries including Japan and South Korea.

Trump has published letters to leaders of 14 countries, including Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Laos, Myanmar, Tunisia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Serbia, Cambodia and Thailand, on the "Real Social" website he founded, explaining the reasons for the taxation and stating that the new tariffs will not include tariffs on other industries.

According to the letters, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Tunisia and Kazakhstan will be subject to a 25% tariff, South Africa and Bosnia and Herzegovina will be subject to a 30% tariff, Indonesia will be subject to a 32% tariff, Serbia and Bangladesh will be subject to a 35% tariff, Thailand and Cambodia will be subject to a 36% tariff, and Laos and Myanmar will face tariffs as high as 40%.

In these letters, which are almost identical in content, Trump warned the leaders of the recipient countries that if they want to raise tariffs in response, the United States will raise tariffs of the same amount on top of the current rate. At the same time, if these countries or their companies decide to produce products in the United States, they will not be subject to tariffs. If the relevant countries open their domestic markets to the United States and eliminate tariffs and non-tariff trade barriers at the same time, then "we may adjust the content of this letter, and the relevant tariff rates can be adjusted up or down, depending on the relationship between our countries."

White House press secretary Caroline Levitt said at a press conference on the afternoon of the 7th that Trump plans to sign an executive order to extend the 90-day suspension period of "reciprocal tariffs" and postpone the implementation time from July 9 to August 1.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Benson said in an interview with CNN on the 6th that Trump will send letters to trading partners this week to inform them of the tariff rates the U.S. plans to impose. For countries that fail to reach a trade agreement with the United States before August 1, the tariff rate will return to the "reciprocal tariff" level announced in April.

On April 2, Trump announced the imposition of so-called "reciprocal tariffs," triggering a sharp drop in U.S. financial markets. Under pressure from multiple parties, Trump announced on April 9 that he would suspend the imposition of high "reciprocal tariffs" on some trading partners for 90 days, but maintain the 10% "base tariff."

Affected by the news that Trump announced additional tariffs, major U.S. stock indices fell across the board on the 7th.
