On November 11, 2025, India’s Adani Group officially announced its entry into the field of battery energy storage systems (BESS) and launched India’s largest energy storage project to date – a 1,126MW/3,530MWh battery energy storage system located in Khavda RE Park, Gujarat .
The project has a total installed capacity of 1126MW, corresponding to an energy storage capacity of 3530MWh, meaning the system can achieve continuous output for approximately 3 hours. The project is expected to be operational in March 2026, at which time the Hafda campus will become the world's largest renewable energy + energy storage complex.
Adani Group revealed that the project will deploy more than 700 BESS containers equipped with advanced lithium-ion battery technology and a smart energy management system (EMS) to achieve efficient scheduling and safe operation.
According to its official website, Adani Group has developed a roadmap for energy storage targets , aiming to expand its total energy storage capacity to 15GWh by fiscal year 2027; and to reach 50GWh within the next five years.
According to available information, Adani Group is India's largest privately owned thermal power generator, with its subsidiary Adani Power wielding significant influence in the sector. While consolidating its traditional energy advantages, the group is also actively expanding into renewable energy, particularly in the photovoltaic (PV) field in recent years, as detailed in previous reports by PV Insights.
