Recently, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) in the UAE launched a tender for the seventh phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum solar PV park project, which will add 2GW of solar power and 1.4GW/8.4GWh of battery energy storage systems. Notably, the accompanying energy storage capacity has been increased compared to previous plans, and the energy storage duration is up to 6 hours.

This tender signifies a further increase in the capacity of the world's largest single photovoltaic project, making it one of the world's largest photovoltaic + energy storage projects.

It is understood that the photovoltaic energy storage project will be implemented under an independent power generator (EPG) model. The tender documents from February of this year indicate that the project requires 1.6GW to 2GW of photovoltaic power, along with a 1GW battery capacity for continuous 6-hour operation.

Latest reports indicate that DEWA's Phase VII project has been expanded to 2GW of solar power and 1.4GW/8.4GWh of energy storage. DEWA states that it has received 49 expressions of interest (EOIs) to date.

It is understood that the photovoltaic park currently has an installed capacity of 3860MW, with another 800MW under construction. Specifically, this includes Phase I (13MW), Phase II (200MW), Phase III (800MW), Phase V (900MW), and Phase VI (1.8GW). It is projected that after the completion of Phase VII, by 2030, the park's total installed capacity will reach 8060MW, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by over 8.5 million tons annually.
